Where Science Meets Sound, and
Sound Becomes Medicine.
Medical Ethno-Musicology explores how music from different cultures — especially Indian Classical ragas — can influence health, emotions, and physiology.
It merges modern music therapy with Ayurvedic and cultural traditions, studying how rhythm, frequency, and melody can support healing.
Music therapy is now an evidence-based practice used worldwide for conditions like:
Diabetes – Stress reduction improves glycemic control
Hypertension – Music lowers blood pressure via nervous system regulation
Insomnia & Anxiety – Ambient and classical music calm the mind
Depression – Uplifting tracks enhance dopamine and mood
From “Weightless” by Marconi Union to “Clair de Lune” by Debussy — every sound wave is a neural medicine.
Ancient Indian ragas carry emotional and physiological signatures that align with specific body states (doshas).
For example:
Raga Yaman – Reduces tension, supports heart health
Raga Bhimpalasi – Soothes muscular pain
Raga Bageshree – Balances blood sugar
Raga Malkauns – Induces deep calm & restorative energy
Each raga acts as a vibrational prescription — a musical dosage for balance and inner harmony.
My two studies combine:
Neurophysiology of sound (hormonal balance, endorphins, heart rate variability)
Ayurvedic energetics (Vata-Pitta-Kapha regulation)
Clinical structure (dosage, timeline, measurable outcomes)
This synthesis redefines how music, medicine, and mindfulness interact in healthcare.
